The Mazda CX-5 is a Compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), that has been around since 2013. It has gained popularity in recent years due to its good gas mileage and stylish features. The CX-5 has three different styles: The Sport (entry level), The Touring (middle of the road) and the Grand Touring (upper tier).

The CX-5 has several features and options available, most of these options are available for The Sport, The Touring, and The Grand Touring packages. The Grand Touring, the upper tier version of the CX-5, comes with the most advanced technology features, such as:

    • Blind Spot Monitoring
    • Speedometer Hologram
    • Lane Shift Alert
    • Automatic Rain Detected Sensor Wipers / Automatic High Beams

Furthermore, the driver and passenger seat both offer heating and cooling and the steering wheel is heated. The back seats also have heated seats and they can be folded down with a spring loaded pull in the trunk. This helps to make more room for hauling items. When hauling items, the fact that the default of the touring and grand touring are All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles make the journey a lot more easier.

The CX-5 has the capability to work with cell phones through Bluetooth or USB. Apple Car Play displays on the center console when using Apple phones. All the windows are automatic and the car also has a rear wiper.

Some technical features of the CX-5 are that the gas mileage is 25 miles in the city and 31 miles on the highway. The size of the tank is 15.3 gallons. The engine is a 250 hp turbo (2.5 L 4-cylinder) which helps make it very gas efficient and also uses Skyactiv Technology.

The newest feature to most Mazdas starting with the 2021’s is the introduction of the Mazda app, which as of right now, offers this app free for three years. With the Mazda app, it gives you information about your car, such as current mileage. It also allows you to remotely start, lock and unlock your car.

    What we liked:

    • The efficiency of gas mileage for a compact SUV
    • The price is in line with mid level SUV’s
    • Has all advanced level technology
    • Offers remote start with the Mazda App
    • The compact SUV offers a lot of room, and makes it easy to fold down back seats to offer even more storage.
    • Safety features are rated at 5 stars for the CX-5 by the NHTSA

    What we disliked:

    • The transmission can sometimes stick when going up hills
    • Warranty is 36,000 miles or three years on everything and 60,000 miles power train warranty.
    • After three years you have to pay for Mazda app that offers remote start, locking and unlocking features.
    • No electric or hybrid options for CX-5 at this time

The Mazda CX-5 is a compact sports utility vehicle that will give you the type of gas mileage of a small car. With 25 miles in the city and 31 on the highway, this SUV makes driving affordable while hauling equipment or other passengers to and from locations.

With the amount of technology thrown into these vehicles its no wonder the safety rating of these vehicles are as high as they are at 5 Stars rated by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These features include driver and passenger side impact air bags. As well as side impact air bags for the back seat, where the Mazda CX-5 was the only smaller SUV with a good rating in side impact collisions.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 keeps up it’s smooth and sleek look. Unlike the models before it, Mazda decided to make the exterior as smooth as possible to make them shine when cleaned and waxed. Although not on all the models, the CX-5 can come with premium speaker package and moon roof to better help sell this vehicle. The app that Mazda has recently released has a lot of great features except the fact that they are supposed to begin charging consumers after the first 3 years of use.

    2021 CX-5

    7.9 Drive Safely and Efficiently

The Mazda CX-5 while it is not the best car out there it is a great deal for the cost. Mazda has always put out great vehicles and as in the past years the CX-5 has gained popularity because of it's gas mileage. Now with the newest models Mazda has went all in to not only keep the attractive exterior look, but has also thrown in the most up to date technology (Blind Side Monitoring, Lane Shift Alert, driver side speedometer hologram, etc.) and made the Mazda CX-5 one of the most safe SUV's out there today receiving a 5 star rating from the NHTSA.

They have thrown in other incentives to make this a good deal such as their Mazda app. Although it is said after 3 years of using the app Mazda is prepared to make you pay. This information did not make us happy here at likedordisliked, as the app does have great functions such as remote start, locking and unlocking of the vehicle.

Overall if you are looking for a vehicle that can get you great gas mileage, look sleek and smooth and have a lot of storage area / leg room, the Mazda CX-5 is a great look at a premium vehicle for a lower premium price.
