The Nintendo Switch is the latest mobile gaming device from Nintendo. With games such as Mario Kart, Metroid Dread, Mario Party, and Animal Crossings the Switch has become a very popular mobile gaming system.

One highlight of the standard version, other than the size of the mobile screen being 7″, is the ability of the console to detach from the joy con controllers. This allows gamers to play on their personal TV’s, making the gaming experience even more enjoyable as it becomes more interactive. The Nintendo Switch comes in standard and lite versions. The lite version is meant for gaming on the mobile device itself. The Lite version is lower in price ($199) and has pretty much every other function that the main switch has, other than the ability to detach the joy cons and be projected on another display.

The device comes with a 32 GB memory card expansion slot and WiFi is needed for majority of the games on the Switch. The joy cons come in a multitude of colors as well. The base price of the Nintendo Switch is $299, but can be more expensive based on the different items / colors that come with it. The device also asks you to purchase a Nintendo subscription to get the full benefits of most of the games, which we saw as something that was not a necessity.

Games don’t come with the device, but can be purchased as a cartridge or a digital copy. To keep organized most gamers like to get the digital version to not have issues with switching cartridges out when wanting to play different games. This also avoids any hazards with the cartridges being unable to read. However, some gamers like the physical copy to get the box and information as a keepsake.

The controls and touch screen are easy to navigate. Some games do not use the touch screen feature, but others do. The joy con controls are very similar to the previous system, where the controller can be placed in one hand, similar to the Nintendo Wii.

What we liked:

  • The mobile feature is great for playing on the go.
  • The joy cons are very easy to use / easy to take off to play on your personal TV.
  • Games are made for every type of genre on this device.
  • Games and system are updated very often.
  • Gaming Display is very detailed and large at 7″ display

What we disliked:

  • Need WiFi for a lot of the games which can detract from it being a mobile device.
  • Physical cartridges sometimes have to be reseated to be read.
  • Having to pay for Nintendo Subscription to get full benefits of the games

What we have concluded is the Nintendo Switch is a must have for any gamer. The games are very extravagant and diverse and with Nintendo consistently updating them, makes the experience for the gamer even better. The device is best used with an internet connection, but some games can be played in an environment with no connection. The joy cons can be detached and the screen is touch screen.

The biggest bonus with this is the ability to make a mobile version turn into a home system by connecting it to your personal TV (this is not available with the Lite version). Although the price is a little high, it has come down as most gaming systems do over time. We at Liked or Disliked recommend this gaming system and you can check out prices here.

8.9 A Detailed Mobile Gaming Device

The Nintendo Switch is a great mobile device for any type of gamer. This device has games ranging from adventure to sports to fantasy to fighter games. The main switch allows you to not only play mobile when you are away from home, but also to connect to your personal tv when you are at home giving you the best of both worlds (because of the price $199, this ability is not available on the Lite version). We believe this is a great buy and we at LikedorDisliked recommend this device to any avid gamer.
